Donation of building materials for repairing, painting, and roofing of Welikada Prison at its 2nd stage renovation was made by Tokyo Cement, Ceat, and Macktiles on 14.02.2020 under the patronage of Hon. Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Legal Reforms, Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva at prison premises.  Cement, tiles, and other building materials were among donations.

Secretary to the Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Legal Reforms, Mr.J.J.Rathnasiri, the  Commissioner-General of Prisons, Mr.T.M.J.W.Thennakoon expressed their ideas on this worthy deed.

Under the 1st stage of renovation, repairing and painting of 14 prisoner wards and 03 three-storey buildings are being completed with the contribution of free labour from prison inmates. Under 2nd stage renovation, cement, tiles, and asbestos sheets donated by sponsored institutions are due to be used in roofing and tiling floor of the inmates’dining hall. Construction work is done under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Welikada Prison, Mr.T.I.Uduwara.
